The announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza brings a glimmer of hope, but it marks only the beginning of a long road to recovery.
Humanitarian conditions remain dire across Gaza. More than 750,000 people have been displaced in recent months alone. Many people have fled south, while others remain trapped in the north, cut off from aid. Hunger is widespread. Access to food, water, and medicine is scarce.
WFP is ready to scale up our response immediately, building on our already widespread aid network across Gaza. Three months of food supplies are already pre-positioned at the border, enough to help feed up to 1.6 million people (roughly 320,000 families). With the help of our partners, we are seeking to do the following:
• Expand bakery support from 10 to 30 locations, producing over 100,000 bundles of fresh bread daily.
• Restore food distribution through 145 points across entire Gaza.
• Scale up nutritional support for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
• Provide digital payments to help families buy food locally, which is already reaching 140,000 families and we’re ready to do more.
As the lead agency for the humanitarian community’s logistics and telecommunications efforts, WFP is also providing the critical infrastructure that underpins the entire emergency response, ensuring that food, supplies, and information can reach those who need them most.
With your support, WFP stands ready to further scale its operations and deliver lifesaving food directly to the most vulnerable families. Every contribution, no matter the size, can transform lives. Every dollar, every truckload, every moment counts.
