Since Israel was violently attacked on Oct. 7, 2023, and the ongoing hostilities escalated, more than 53,000 people have been reported killed and nearly 120,000 injured in Gaza. In Israel, 1,200 people have been reported killed and more than 5,000 injured.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has grown catastrophic. Borders remain closed. The health care system has collapsed. There are shortages of electricity, medicine, equipment and specialized personnel. Americares continues to play a critical role in the response by funding desperately needed mental health services for children and adults in Gaza. At the same time, Americares is working with partner organizations to increase access to medicine and medical supplies in Gaza. We have aid shipments at the border ready to deliver as soon as the blockade is fully lifted.
But we need your help to continue. When the borders open, the need will be overwhelming, and we must do everything we can to be ready for that crucial moment.
Since the conflict began in October 2023, Americares has:
• Sustained mobile medical clinics that are operating inside Gaza, bringing urgent care to families in camps and shelters.
• Delivered over 35 tons of essential medicines and supplies, fulfilling more than 350,000 prescriptions.
• Prepositioned 4 tons of additional aid—including prenatal vitamins and cancer medications—ready for delivery as soon as the blockade is lifted.
• Provided hundreds of thousands of US dollars in emergency grants, ensuring vital health services continue amidst unimaginable conditions.
• Supporting mental health programs reaching over 16,000 children and adults traumatized by the violence.
In Israel, Americares worked with multiple organizations after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack to meet physical and mental health needs including supporting a mental health hotline, distribution of household supplies and baby care items, and child friendly spaces for populations displaced within Israel due to the hostilities.
Thank you for your support in continuing this critical work.
