Tropical Storm Wipha Response

, International Medical Corps

On July 22, Tropical Storm Wipha swept across the northern Philippines, killing at least 31 people and injuring more than 50. The storm inflicted severe damage on infrastructure, triggering landslides and flooding that have cut off access to essential health services. As a result, evacuation centers are under immense strain, rapidly becoming overcrowded and heightening the risk of infectious disease outbreaks, including malaria and cholera.

In response to the devastation, International Medical Corps immediately sprang into action. Our teams rapidly began to deploy critical hygiene supplies—including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and sanitary pads—to affected families in Cardona, Cainta and San Jose, some of the most heavily affected cities.

International Medical Corps has extensive experience responding to severe storms and has been working in the Philippines since 2013. Over the years, we have responded to some of the deadliest weather disasters to strike the region, including Typhoon Haiyan, Typhoon Hagupit, Typhoon Mangkhu, and Typhoon Gaemi.

Your support can help bring urgently needed medical care and supplies to the people of the Philippines affected by Tropical Storm Wipha as they rebuild and recover from this disaster.

*Please note for recurring donations: Once we have determined that the community can continue to respond to the after-effects of this emergency without us, we will scale back our response efforts. At that time, we will redirect your future donations where they are needed most to help us respond to future outbreaks of conflict, disease or disaster.
