Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) has responded to humanitarian crises since the 2010 Haiti earthquake following its mission of strengthening communities impacted by or vulnerable to crisis. Today CORE focuses on three pillars of work are Emergency Response, Climate Resilience and Public Health. When there’s a crisis, we don’t just bandage the superficial wounds. We work together with the local community to support their immediate holistic needs and a path to long-term recovery. Disasters are devastating. There’s no getting around that. But we believe they’re an opportunity to address inequities and prevent future devastation for the most vulnerable populations.
CORE grew significantly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Recognizing the emerging inequities around testing availability and, subsequently, vaccine access, CORE launched its national COVID-19 response efforts in March 2020, prioritizing a community-based approach to increasing access to testing, tracing and vaccinations. Beginning in the Los Angeles area, our work COVID-19 response work quickly expanded throughout California and to Georgia, New Orleans, North Carolina, Chicago, Puerto Rico, Washington D.C, Navajo Nation, Haiti, India, and Brazil. To date, CORE has conducted over 5.4 million COVID-19 tests and delivered 1.2 million vaccine doses. CORE has launched extensive outreach campaigns in each region to complement testing and vaccination efforts.
