Sudan Conflict & Humanitarian Crisis Response

来自 AIRLINK INC

Some 25 million people—nearly half of Sudan’s population—are in need of assistance; nearly 11 million people are internally displaced; and the combination of heavy rains and flooding and disease outbreaks (mainly cholera) continue to drive needs higher, worsening the humanitarian situation.

The increasingly desperate situation in Sudan, coupled with the temporary opening of the Chad-Sudan border at Adre, means the ability to push goods into hard-to-reach areas in eastern Sudan is time-sensitive. Camps in this area have been declared ‘famine-imminent.’ In eastern Sudan, specifically the Darfur region intensified fighting has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian crisis, with a man-made famine being declared in North Darfur and more than 25 million people additionally at risk of famine in the coming months.

Neighboring Chad hosts more than 1 million refugees – one of the largest and fastest-growing refugee populations in Africa. The recent conflict in neighboring Sudan has driven hundreds ofthousands more across the border.

Aid agencies report they are seriously underfunded and do not have the money to scale up life-saving humanitarian operations to head off tens of thousands of preventable civilian deaths in the coming months.

AIRLINK'S RESPONSE:
Airlink is uniquely positioned to respond to this crisis, thanks to its network of nonprofit and humanitarian agency partnerships that, together, can address the most pressing needs in the country.

Airlink, along with its network of NGO partners, will rapidly deliver aid in the face of mounting needs, launching a 9-month airlift program that puts logistics at the center of the humanitarian response. Combining Airlink’s logistics expertise, commitments from airlines and foundation donors, and strong relationships with aid agency partners, we will give local communities access to a consistent and reliable source of much-needed humanitarian supplies through previously cost-prohibitive cargo flights.

POTENTIAL IMPACT:
This project will aim to meet the short-term humanitarian needs of at least 8M people, with a focus on medical assistance such as maternal and infant health and psychosocial needs, access to food and clean water, and shelter for displaced persons - delivering 915 tons of emergency supplies.

PAST IMPACT:
Since the outbreak of civil war in April 2023, Airlink has supported 124 tons of supplies to Chad and Sudan (Port Sudan), saving the humanitarian community $933K in transportation costs that can be invested directly in procurement and costly, underfunded local operations.

Help us reach communities in need with this critical airlift program today! Your donation will go along way in saving lives.
