The remnants of Typhoon Halong caused devastating flooding in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska, on October 12th—the region's worst disaster since 1964.
Approximately 1,500 residents were displaced (including 90% of homes destroyed in Kipnuk), leaving many Yup'ik families shelterless before winter. The storm has also gravely disrupted traditional cultural life.
GEM is providing immediate aid and restoring vital infrastructure. They are committed to long-term recovery, working to rebuild safe, culturally-sensitive housing and community infrastructure, including converting fishery housing into long-term solutions via their Tribal Impact Program.
