Support survivors of Venezuela earthquakes and other patients globally

di Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

After two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have continued distributing emergency medical supplies while preparing for the next phase of the response. Local authorities report that thousands have lost their lives while thousands more have been injured or displaced.

Our teams from Caracas are on the ground assessing the needs in La Guaira, one of the cities most affected by the earthquakes.

As of July 8, MSF has distributed emergency trauma kits and medical supplies to treat nearly 10,000 people injured in the earthquakes. Additionally, MSF has donated 8.5 tons of medications, medical equipment, and sanitation supplies to support overwhelmed healthcare structures. These donations have been particularly impactful. MSF was one of the only international aid organizations present during the first hours following the disaster, and continues to be one of the main organizations helping to fill critical supply gaps when hospitals exhaust their emergency stocks.

MSF teams are also in the Delta Amacuro and Anzoátegui regions of the country. While these regions have not been directly affected by the earthquakes, we will send emergency supplies and staff from these projects as needed. In 2025, our teams supported the public health network in Anzoátegui and Delta Amacuro by providing sexual and reproductive health services and conducting infection prevention and control.

Our teams are prepared to adapt and support the evolving medical humanitarian needs as the response moves beyond the initial trauma phase. This is particularly crucial as people who were displaced by the disaster find themselves in parks, stadiums, and other informal settlements. We plan to provide mental health care and deliver medical care via mobile clinics. Thousands of people have no shelter as many residential buildings have suffered extensive structural damage.

MSF remains committed to providing lifesaving care for all our patients in over 75 countries around the world. MSF USA takes no government funding and relies on unrestricted funds from private donors like you. This means that when an emergency strikes, we don't have to write grants or face red tape and restrictions before we respond—we can act fast and start saving lives immediately.
